Cross Country 2015!

Congratulations to all of our Cross Country participants. School teams and clubs are a great way to build confidence and make new friendships.

Big Books!

Shared Reading is an important part of the Primary Literacy Block. It is a time when teachers and students 'share' a reading experience using Big Books or other enlarged text. It has several benefits some of which are listed below.

~ allows students to enjoy materials they may not be able to read on their own.

~assists students in learning where to look and/or focus their attention

~ helps students develop a sense of story and increase comprehension. 

Patterning Challenge

Today the class was asked to create a repeating pattern using 9 square and 6 triangle attribute blocks.

It is not as easy as it looks! Take a look at what we came up with.

Hard At Work

We do a lot of small group work throughout the day. It gives all students a chance to problem solve and make decisions together. Students learn quickly how to communicate their thinking with one another.

Below are a few pictures taken during Math. Students always have access to 'hands on' manipulatives during Math. Manipulatives are an important tool for teaching and learning. Show this picture to your child and ask them to tell you what we were doing.

Yellow Eyed Penguins!

We have been reading different texts to see if we can determine the Main Idea. Also, we have been looking to support those Main Ideas with evidence or supporting facts. Today we read about the Yellow Eyed Penguin. The text selection led us to this fantastic website! The class loved looking at all it had to offer. On nights when reading from a book just doesn't feel right. Hop online and read some amazing facts about animals courtesy of National Geographic Kids!
